With Christmas in the air it also means winter is all but arrived and for some its the affect of seasonal depression and being overwhelmed.

Around 15 per cent of Canadians experience the “winter blues” and there is a heavy focus to have practices and strategies to stay mentally healthy.

Shannon Mercer, Founder of Mental Health Matters Wingham says there some little but very impactful things we can do to keep ourselves busy and stay mentally healthy.

“Plan a coffee get together with a friend, somebody who’s company you enjoy or pickup an old hobby or try something you’ve always wanted to do. Exercise regularly, get a good nights sleep and get some fresh air and sunshine when the sun does peak its way out.” said Mercer.

Mercer also made note of the support of local businesses to them from Howick Mutual Insurance to Castings Public House for hosting trivia nights with admission being a donation to Mental Health Matters.
