A bat in South Huron has tested positive for rabies.
Huron-Perth Public Health says overall 2-3 per cent of Ontario’s bat population is infected with rabies and humans exposed to a bite or scratch from an infected animal requires medical treatment to avoid death.
Public health says if a bat were to fly into your home and certain there was no human contact to try and confine the bat to one room, turn on the lights and open a window so it can escape.
This marks the 2nd bat within Huron-Perth to test positive for rabies.
