The first vessel of 2026 has arrived in Goderich, marking the 94th Port of Goderich Top Hat Ceremony.
The first vessel was recognized after the official opening of the Seaway or when the Welland Canal Opens which was done on March 22nd.
Goderich welcomed Algoma Interpid and captain Joe Costello as the first ship to enter the Goderich Harbour for the year with a new top hat to celebrate 93 years with the former now on display at the Huron County Museum.
Mayor Trevor Bazinet says the Top Hat Ceremony is more than tradition, its a celebration of the rich maritime heritage.
