Land Turned Over to Saugeen First Nation Following Guilty Plea

Land has been turned over to Saugeen First Nation after a guilty plea under the Ontario Heritage Act.

Saugeen Shores Police were called on November 29th, 2022 after an incident in Saugeen Shores at the location of a protected archaeological site.

The owner of the property and a numbered Ontario Inc Company were jointly charged with one count of failing to comply with a section of the Ontario Heritage Act and a section of the Ontario Building Code.

On May 5th the defendant plead guilty to the Heritage Act offence, resulting in the land at 6 South Rankin Street Southampton being turned over to Saugeen First Nation, $30,000 being paid to Saugeen First Nation, a written apology issued and a $3500 fine plus victim surcharge.
