Grey Bruce Public Health is reminding the public its best to enjoy wildlife from a distance.
Public health says interactions with wildlife like raccoons, foxes, skunks and bats can lead to injuries and the transmission of disease such as rabies.
Rabies while rare is still very serious and can spread to people through direct contact with the saliva of an infected animal.
Grey Bruce Public Health says not to interact with wildlife or trapping, leave baby animals alone, teach children to stay away from wild or stray animals and keep your pets away from wild animals.
Program Manager Gillian Jordan says while human rabies cases in Ontario are rare, public health must assess every bite or scratch from an animal which breaks the skin to determine if rabies treatment is needed.
