Huron Bruce MPP Lisa Thompson has announced both the federal and provincial governments are investing up to $1.7 million over three years to boost the agri-food sector.

The investment will be to launch the Promoting Agri-Food Careers Initiative.

Thompson made the announcement on Saturday during Huron County’s Breakfast on the Farm and says this will directly boost local agricultural societies and the fairs they put on.

“Over the next 3 years were going to be working together to support our local fairs to make sure they have the right resources and the right materials and exhibits so when people come to visit, they’ll also see the amazing career paths that can be realized through the agri-food industry.” Thompson.

The two phased initiative is being funded through the Sustainable Canadian Agricultural Partnership and will provide support to agricultural societies as they look to increase awareness, promote jobs in the agri-food industry and attract the next generation of agri-food leaders.
