Bruce Area Solid Waste Recycling is celebrating their 27th year for their annual food drive running until September 20th.
During this drive residents have been encouraged to place canned food items in untied plastic bags next to their blue boxes for collection as a way to give back.
In the last 26 years, Bruce Area Recycling has collected over 185,000lbs of food which has been shared across food banks in the service area.
Vince Cascone, General Manager of Bruce Area Recycling says a food drive such as this has been a big boost for those in need.
“Especially these days its very helpful. We take all of our material to the Salvation Army in Wiarton that splits up for the food banks in our member municipalities and everybody gets food to hand out and they really look forward to it every year’ said Cascone.
Collection days are still remaining until the drive wraps up on September 20th, those in the collection area are asked to just leave canned goods in plastic bags next to their blue boxes.
