Bruce County’s Executive Committee have approved the submission of a proposed delegation for the upcoming Good Roads Conference in Toronto.
They will be looking to speak the Minister of Transportation to investigate an extension of the Community Transportation Program with the goal of developing a rural transit program.
In the proposal, the County of Bruce says they will work in collaboration with other rural municipalities to capitalize on the economies of scale, provincial contracts for fuel, and vehicle purchases.
They say this could eventually lead to providing service to residents living at the top of the Bruce Peninsula through Huron and Wellington Counties down to London hospital and Toronto’s Pearson International Airport.
Furthermore, the County is asking the government to make inter-community transit a priority in the next term to assist in addressing the housing, labour shortage, and environmental initiatives.
This year’s Ontario Good Roads Association Conference is taking place at the Fairmount Royal York Hotel in Toronto April 10th to the 13th.
