Bruce County Council approved financial support for the Brightshores Health System Wellness & Recovery Centre project at its council meeting Monday for $500,000 over a 5-year-period from 2024 to 2028.
The centre, which is located at 6th A Street East in Owen Sound, is the first of its kind in the region and is unique in Canada.
It is based on harm reduction and recovery principles and will provide a safe environment for people in need of support and management of their substance use and mental health.
It aims to reduce healthcare costs, reduce use of the ER, and destigmatize mental health and substance use.
