Bruce County’s Executive Committee called for a third-party review of service reductions to the Emergency Departments in Chesley and Walkerton today.

The call is in response to recently announced closures of the Emergency Department at the Walkerton Hospital beginning this Monday from 8pm until 8am for an indefinite period of time.

The Chesley Hospital’s Emergency Department hours have also been reduced over the past 2 years they say.

The Committee says these service reductions may result in difficulties for patients to attend alternate hospitals. Adding the reductions continue to put a healthcare strain on rural communities.

The Request for a Third Party Review of Emergency Services are in line with a recent request made by Arran-Elderslie to the Province.
