Bruce County will not be implementing development charges.

A vote on a staff recommendation was defeated by Council in a 6-2 vote (Kincardine and Saugeen Shores voted in favour).

County Warden Janice Jackson says a majority on Council believe putting in such charges would impede on development and thus impacting growth.

Jackson says there is lots of development happening in shoreline communities but the rest of the municipalities are struggling to attract new development.

She says the revenue they would have generated through development charges would have gone to help cover things like long-term care homes and emergency services.
