Bruce County and the Saugeen Ojibway Nation announced today that they have reached an out-of-court settlement in regards to the long-standing legal action in relation to parts of the Saugeen Peninsula.
The claim was launched 25 years ago and went to trial in 2019. The agreement includes the transfer of 306 acres of County Forest within the Lindsay and Amabel Tracts.
The full terms of settlement are confidential with the parties working together to satisfy the conditions.
The SON will continue their legal claim against the Federal, Provincial and other Municipal Governments. Agreements have already been reached with Grey County and the Town of Saugeen Shores.
The land transfer will be formalized at the next Bruce County Council meeting scheduled for January 13, 2022.
