The community of Chelsey and the committee entitled “Chesley Hospital Community Support” held a rally on Saturday all in support of the Chesley Hospital.
Residents are organizing to combat the reduction in service they’ve seen at their local hospital as well as the Emergency Room.
Co-Chair of the Chesley Hospital Community Support Comittee, Brenda Scott, speaks to the availability of the ER in Chesley currently.
“Our ER is only open weekdays, business hours. It’s not open on weekends, not open on evenings. That limit of services does put the community at some risk.”
With warmer weather arriving in the community another worry says Scott is the increase in need that is seen for healthcare.
“We know that in the summertime, rural hospitals are busier than ever. Partly because we get a lot of tourists, we get cottagers coming back to the cottage, so the population in the area increases. It’s also a busy time for the farming industry.”
The group has a petition available for signing to show your support.
They are also planning a bus trip to Queens Park to hold a demonstration there as well.
The date is unknown but you can visit the “Chesley Hospital Community Support” Facebook group or www.chesleyhcs.ca for the latest info.
