People who got a real Christmas tree for the holidays are being asked to keep it for the winter.
The Nature Conservancy of Canada suggests having the evergreen sit in a backyard, instead of leaving it at the curb for garbage pick up, will provide many benefits.
Science Manager at NCC Samantha Knight says the tree acts as a safe place for birds.
She says by leaving the tree in a garden over the summer, it will continue to provide habitat for wildlife and improve your soil as it decomposes.
Knight goes on to say the by the time fall arrives, the tree trunk and branches will decompose and turn into soil.
