Cursive writing is returning to Ontario schools.

Cursive handwriting has only been an optional piece of learning in elementary schools in the province since 2006 but will return as a mandatory part of the curriculum starting in September.

Education Minister Stephen Lecce says cursive writing is a critical life skill and goes beyond just knowing how to sign your own name.

Cursive writing will be reintroduced as an expectation starting in grade 3.

Language education experts have been applauding the move who add this will also reinforce reading skills on top of writing.
