With the sudden passing o Goderich Mayor John Grace recently the entire community is coming to terms with the loss that is present not only in the Municipal Government of the scene but in the business and larger community as well.
Deputy Mayor Myles Murdock remembers John as a politician who could get things done.
“He had a real knack for speaking to all the right people to get really big projects done. You know if you’ve been down to Goderich and take a look at some of what have in large part it has to do with his leading efforts.”
The Deputy Mayor says Grace had many challenging projects he took on during his time as a Municipal Politician but one of the main ones was the Maitland Recreation Centre.
“It’s quite a nice asset to have when you are trying to attract health care workers and other people like that and professionals and it gives them one more reason to come here.”
Murdock also says Mayor Grace was instrumental in the recovery following the 2011 Tornado. The downtown core was rebuilt in about two years in an effort he calls astounding, and the location went from having about 1 tree remaining to where it is now with what the Deputy Mayor calls a veritable arboretum.
