Bruce County is set to hold a Public Meeting tomorrow at 9:30 am on the Development Charges initiative.

The initiative was approved in the 2023-2027 Corporate Budget and Forecast.

The background study on the topic was prepared by Watson & Associates back in March and has been presented to half of the member Municipalities with the rest scheduled by September 13th.

The purpose of the charges are to fund growth-related infrastructure, with service levels expected to decrease without improvements.

The County currently doesn’t have the funds to cover the replacement of its existing infrastructure and has had to levy large tax increases as a result.

Development charges are an alternate source of revenue able to be used to mitigate the raising of property taxes.

The meeting is in Council Chambers in Walkerton Thursday morning at 9:30 am.
