The South Bruce Grey Health Centre has temporarily closed the Durham Emergency Department due to ongoing staffing shortages.

It closed this morning at 7 am and won’t reopen until tomorrow at 7am.

This  closure is in addition to those that see the Chesley ED closed until Monday at 7am.

Mayor of Arran-Eldserlie Steve Hammell the Municipality where Chesley is located speaks to the issue.

“Every day we are talking about, we’re thinking about, we are trying to hopefully have more nurses in our hospitals. Ultimately that is what’s going to fix this. We need more people.”

The Durham ED is already undertaking temporary overnight closures both Friday and Saturday.

It closes at 5pm each afternoon and reopens the next morning at 7am.

An ambulance bypass will be undertaken during each closure to divert patients in each area to the nearest open Emergency Department.
