Actress Betty White passed away on New Year’s Eve at the age of 99.
While she was one of Hollywood’s well-known celebrities, few knew about her family connections to Wingham.
According to Ancestry.com and Canadian Census records, White’s maternal grandmother Margaret Hobbs was born in Wingham March 5th, 1877.
Huron County Historian David Yates confirmed it to Wingham Advance Times and says Hobbs moved to Chicago with her family around 1879.
White would have turned 100 one week from next Monday.
