Police are reminding the public it is a criminal offence to remove or damage official election signs on public property.

This after Huron County OPP received a report regarding a number of damaged signs found off Harriston Road near Gorrie and more signs off Highway 21 near Amberly.

Police say people found damaging or removing signs can face charges.

They recommend if a sign has been placed on your private property without your consent, you can remove it, or you can contact the candidate and let them know you did not request a sign and would like it removed.

To make a complaint about election signs you can write to the Office of the Commissioner of Canada Elections.
