While it seems the worst has passed, the Maitland Valley Conservation Authority is keeping a flood watch in effect until Wednesday.
Temperatures over the weekend reached well above 0 with heavy amounts of rain on Saturday which brought in much snowmelt.
Maitland Conservation says even without additional rainfall of the 10-30mm forecasted, river levels could reach those experienced during the December 2008 event.
Municipal officials are encouraged to check drainage systems, monitor low-lying and flood prone roads and prepare for road closures.
