Frauds in Huron County result in Losses of $383,000 to Victims

Victim in Bluewater lost $83,000 to Investment Scam and Huron East Victim lost $300,000 to individuals visiting home doing unrequested & unnecessary work.

Huron County OPP is investigating two recent reports of fraud in Bluewater and Huron East.

Total losses from both are over $383,000. On April 30th police received a report of a Bluewater resident losing $83,000 from their bank account.

The victim was contacted by phone by someone posing as an investment company offering to trade the victim’s money for them.

They initially provided $3,000 but later had their computer accessed and a further $80,000 stolen.

On May 1st an elderly victim in Huron East reported being scammed out of $300,00 since the fall of 2022.

Two unknown males attended their residence and offered to do work & repairs the victim had not asked for.

They re-attended the scene and pressured the victim to do more unnecessary work.

Police are working with the victims and both cases are still under investigation.
