In efforts to address a budget shortfall, Huron Perth Public Health is restructuring its programs and services heading into the New Year which will result in layoffs.

13.5 positions will be removed from public health’s organizational structure, a drop of around 10 per cent in staffing levels.

In a release, public health says this will come through retirements, ending of temporary staff contracts and layoffs.

Medical Officer of Health Dr. Miriam Klassen says they have spent the past year decreasing program expenses and most of their budget is for human resources which has resulted in need to removing positions from the organization.
