Statistics Canada says the national year over year inflation rate was set at 7 per cent in August, marking the second consecutive month inflation slowed on an annual basis.

In the consumer price index report, Stats Canada says lower gas prices were the largest factor in the slowdown.

While gas prices have dropped, the price tag at the grocery store rose at the fastest rate since 1981 with prices up 10.8 per cent when compared a year ago.
