Young Canada Week opened on Friday at the Maitland Recreation Centre.
As part of the opening ceremonies banners were raised to the rafter for 4 local legend hockey players; Al Dewsbury, Jack Price, Larry Jeffrey and Gary Doak.
Al Dewsbury played in the NHL from 146 to 1956 between the Red Wings and Black Hawks, Jack Price in the NHL for the Blackhawks from 1952 to 1954, Larry Jeffrey for the Red Wings, Leafs and Rangers between 1961 and 1969 including the 67 Cup Winning Leaf Team, and Gary Doak from 1965 to 1980 between the Red Wings, Canucks, Rangers, and Bruins.
