A hockey tradition started all the way back in 1950 is still going strong some 72 years later with Young Canada Week in Goderich.
The Pee Wee Hockey Tournament had a simple reason for starting says Co-Chair of the Event Mike Alcock.
“At the time there was no pee wee tournaments in the world. Young Canada Week started as a pee wee hockey tournament and was the first in the world and basically was a big part of lowering the age of competitive hockey in Canada, North America and the entire world.”
The event has evolved over time to now also include not just U-13, but also U-15 and U-18 at both the Local League and Rep levels.
Opening Ceremonies are set for Friday night at 7pm and includes recognition of the 4 NHL players from the area Larry Jeffrey, Gary Doak, Jack Price and Al Dewsbury.
