Grey County is buying the Diamond Motel in Owen Sound to assist with emergency housing.
Council approved a staff report to finalize the agreement of the sale of the motel for $3.05 million.
The county says the current supply of short term housing isn’t enough to meet demand now or in the future and with the help of operating the 22 room motel, it should provide around 10,000 nights of accommodation per year.
The county adds the purchase will be funded from the Affordable Housing Fund and not put a dent in the 2024 levy.
The sale will be finalized at the next county council meeting.
