Grey Highlands council has taken a step in protecting the health of lakes within the community.

Council approved a new bylaw aimed to improve water quality in Lake Eugenia, Wilcox Lake, Irish Lake and Brewster Lake.

Among these changes seen will be limiting the use of fertilizers near shorelines as typically what does on the lawns typically can end up in the water.

The municipality says this is about being proactive, by reducing excess nutrients entering the lakes, they are helping protect drinking water, preserve local ecosystems and keep the spaces healthy for everyone who enjoys them.
