Hanover Police investigating counterfeit toonies

Hanover Police are investigating several occurrences involving possible counterfeit Toonies.

These suspicious monies were all located at a business this month. Police are working with members of the RCMP to confirm the status of the Toonies.

Until the investigation is complete, Hanover Police would like to remind merchants to ensure they check coins in the same fashion, as they would paper currency.

For counterfeit coins, be on the look out for misshaped printing and graphics, weight discrepancies, and the surface area not being smoothly polished. There are other tests you can preform after a quick internet search. Also, be on the look out for anyone passing large amounts of coins.

If anyone has information about this incident, they are asked to contact the Hanover Police Service or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS (8477) or by submitting a secure Web Tip.
