Hanover Police are still investigating a scam that defrauded a local man of thousands of dollars.

On Thursday, Jan. 19, the victim was contacted by a fraudster who claimed to be running a “sting operation” and requested that the victim purchase several thousand dollars in gift cards to assist the investigation.

The victim complied and provided the gift card numbers over the telephone to the suspect.

Police issued a reminder to never purchase gift cards on the request of unknown individuals and if something feels off with any transaction request, contact authorities.

If anyone has information about this theft, they are asked to contact the Hanover Police Service or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS (8477) or by submitting a secure Web Tip.
