Final arguments will soon begin in a land claim made by the Saugeen First Nation against the Town of South Bruce Peninsula.

The two parties decided to take their cases to court in a dispute over a portion of Sauble Beach in November.

South Bruce Peninsula Mayor Janice Jackson says the final arguments are expected to conclude in May and then it is in the hands of the courts.

The federal government initially filed a land claim in 1990 but in 1995 Saugeen First Nation submitted their own claim saying about a mile and a half of the north beach belongs to them.

The Town turned down a mediated settlement between the reserve, and both the provincial and federal governments in 2014.
