The Town of Saugeen Shores Municipal Heritage Committee unveiled a new interpretive plaque at Port Elgin Main Beach recently.

The program is meant to identify buildings, properties and other landmarks that contribute to the rich history of the community.

The Plaque at the Beach explores the history of the 3km of fine sandy beaches which have a history as being a popular tourist designation since the late 1800’s.

It also covers the fact it offers summer treats and food for those that have swam the day away.
