Scott Howard was as cool as the ice at the 2022 Port Elgin Chrysler Tankard presented by Bruce Power.

Team Howard stole one in the ninth end and one more in the tenth to beat Team Epping 5-3 in the championship final at the Plex in Port Elgin.

Howard was the skip subbing for his father, team leader and former provincial champ Glenn Howard who sat out of the tournament with a knee injury.

Howard says it was a bit of a nail-biter but they didn’t panic after giving up 3 to Epping early on.

Team Howard will represent Ontario at the Brier in Lethbridge next month.

Meanwhile, the 500 curling fans at the Plex on Sunday saw an exciting finish in the tournament.

Organizer Dave Middleton says given the measures that were put in place, you couldn’t of asked for a better scenario.

Middleton says some of the fans decided not to attend the event which made the committee’s job a little easier with tickets already sold out.

He says they will take some time away before deciding whether to try and put in a bid to host the Tankard again in 2023.
