Residents of Huron-Kinloss have spoken and council won’t be pursuing a standalone trailer by-law after what staff called unprecedented engagement on the matter.
The draft by-law sought to prohibit and regulate trailers on lots within a Residential Zone in the township. A survey on the matter received 425 responses, with a whopping 84% voting against the new by-law.
Staff noted that there was general support for the by-law’s intent, which was to restrict the parking of unsightly trailers and control nuisance and long-term human habitation, but the majority
felt the town should stick to the regulations in place or look for other ways to handle this situation rather than developing a stand-alone by-law.
Council agreed to defer any further conversations and decisions about trailer regulations until they review Official Plan documents.
