A proposed mixed-use development in Kincardine will soon be able to proceed.

Council approved a zoning by-law amendment on a 54-acre land on the east side of Highway 21 between Russell and Durham Streets.

There is a 20-day appeal period before the by-law is confirmed.

Developers Smart Centres are proposing constructing 11 residential apartment buildings, a retirement home, commercial space, and offices.

In a news release, Mayor Gerry Glover says they were able to grant approval of the amendment after the MTO (Ministry of Transportation) announced earlier this year that they plan to make upgrades the intersections of Highway 21 at Russell Street and at Kincardine Avenue.

Phase One of the development will see a 3-storey apartment building with 45 units off Millenium Way south of the Marriott hotel.
