The Muncipality of Kincardine discussed the budget during Monday’s Council meeting. The proposed tax levy increase had started the evening with a proposed 11.15% increase but discussions revolved around the reduction of the budget by $700,000 in order to reduce it down to 7%. One issue debated heavy was the possible removal of Doctor Recruitment costs.
Modifications included Council retaining the School Resource Officer for the area but applying Provincial Cannabis Funding to offset some of the cost.
Positions eliminated include 1 seasonal By-Law Enforcement, and 2 Tourism Students.
They also transferring $30,000 from the tax stabilization reserve and transfered Bruce Telecom Dividend funds from Capital to share it in Operating.
Mayor Kenneth Craig said the transfer is something they’ve done in the past.
“I think in this particular year, when we are facing some high expenses and our tax revenue is not what we are hoping. I think it is appropriate to move $25,000 back into Operations and leave $250,000 in Capital.”
The budget will be back up for discussion on March 6th.
