Kincardine Council discussed various ways to generate revenue for the Municipality at their most recent council meeting.
Wednesday night, Mayor Gerry Glover brought forward Notices of Motion regarding paid parking in high season tourist areas and also the idea of a accommodation tax at hotels.
Staff was directed to bring back reports on the topic, which would carry exemptions for residents and businesses in the effected areas.
Implication for area Airbnb’s will also be explored although it was though by Mayor Glover to possibly get messy but needs to be inclusive.
The destination for revenue from the proposed accommodation tax would be to support attainable housing and the parking fees to support strategic initiatives and tourism.
