The Integrity Commissioner for Bruce County and its various municipalities is planning on retiring and Kincardine has accepted his recommendation for who should fill his shoes.

Harold Elston, who has served as Integrity Comissioner since 2018, announced his intention to retire in a letter issued August 18. In his correspondence, Elston noted that since his term won’t expire until the end of 2023, the municipalities he serves should delegate his authority to Toronto-based law firm Aird and Berlis, LLP.

At their Sept. 7 meeting, Kincardine council accepted that recommendation, directing the Clerk to negotiate an agreement with the law firm for IC services.

Councilor Doug Kennedy said he’d like a deal in place by the time the new council arrives.

Elston will remain on as IC until the transition is complete.
