Ontario drivers in good standing won’t need to worry about renewing their licence plates.

As of July 1st, the province is scrapping the requirement for drivers to manually renew their plates online or in person at a ServiceOntario location.

This follows a move from the Ford government in 2022 to scrap the licence plate sticker costs.

Despite removing the fees it was found by the Ministry of Transportation over 1 million expired plates were seen which highlighted the need for automatic renewals.

The renewal process applies to all passenger vehicles, light duty trucks, motorcycles and mopeds assuming the owner has valid insurance and out outstanding fines.

The plates will be automatically renewed 90 days before they expire.
