A local eye doctor is taking part in an initiative to recycle used contact lenses.

Saugeen Shores Family Eye Care are accepting non-recyclable contact lenses and packaging as part of the Bausch and Lomb Every Contact Counts Recycling Program.

The goal of the program is to reduce waste and to keep eyewear out of landfills.

In a news release, founder and CEO of TerraCycle Tom Szaky says this program allows local eye doctors to take an active role in the community to preserve the environment.

Saugeen Shores Family Eye Care is located on 643 Devonshire Road in Port Elgin.

For more information on the recycling program, go to the TerraCycle website.
