Local Saugeen Shores Teacher Retires after Long Career Being Gateway for Students to the Trades

Bud Halpin spearheaded on-the-job at work sites back in 2008 in order to give them hands-on, practical work experience learning themselves what the trades have to offer.

Local Saugeen District High School Teacher Bud Halpin is set for retirement after a long career helping such programs as the High Skills Major Trades Program and becoming a gateway for his students to the trades.

The school held a BBQ on June 2nd where Halpin, along with his batch of students from this years 2022 class, celebrated for the final time with a graduating class and invited guests who helped out over the years.

Halpin spearheaded taking students off-site in 2008 in order to give them hands-on, practical work experience learning themselves what the trades have to offer.

The High Skills Major Trades Program at Saugeen District High School has evolved during Halpin’s time expanded from carpentry to now include electrical and plumbing education.
