Local Unemployment Ticks Up In January

Local unemployment numbers saw the unemployment rate rise slightly in January.

The Four County Labour Market Planning Board says the unemployment rate in the Stratford-Bruce Peninsula Economic Region increased 0.9 percentage points to 4.9 percent.

The goods producing sector saw a hit in January of 1700 jobs, followed by Agriculture at 900, 500 in utilities and 400 in construction. Gains were seen in Manufacturing with a jump of 500 jobs.

The current number of job postings currently exceeds 1400.
