Just in time for Labour Day, three local unions have made Home Run Donations to the Lamont Sports Park in Saugeen Shores.

Labourers’ International Union of North America Local #1059, United Brotherhood of Carpenters Local #2222 and Ironworkers District Council Local #736 all made $10,000 contributions to Phase 2 of the park’s fundraising campaign.

“We are grateful to the unions’ membership for their generous donations,” said Campaign Co-Chair Rob Stanley in a release. “Not only do these funds move us closer to our goal, but they also show the importance that organized labour plays in our community.”

Fittingly, the fundraising campaign is set to wrap up just after the Labour Day weekend. The committee continues to ask the public for donation as it seeks to build two youth ball diamonds, an accessible playground, two minor league batting cages, a storage facility, and a 200-person public pavilion.

The campaign’s goal is to raise $1.5 million for the project’s second phase.
