The Marine Heritage Society has been recognized for restoration efforts in Southampton.

The Architectural Conservancy Ontario’s Peter Stokes Restoration Award for small scale projects was given to the Marine Heritage Society for their work on Southamptons Saugeen River Range Lights.

The project started shortly after the winter of 2019-2020 when high water levels and heavy ice caused significant damage.

This pepper pot light was first built in 1903 paired with another beacon upriver and still provides mariners with two points of light to align their safe passage into the Southampton Harbour.

The front range light is one of the most photographed lake icons branding Bruce County internationally as a tourist and marine history destination.
