Starting Oct. 1, the provincial minimum wage will jump 50 cents to $15.50 an hour.

The hike was announced in April.

Students will also see a 50-cent increase in wages from $14.10 to $14.60.

The Ontario Living Wage Network calculated in 2019 that you needed to make $18.39/hour to earn a living in Grey and Bruce counties, while an assessment of Perth and Huron counties in 2021 found the number to be $17.95/hour.

The province adds if there will be another increase in October next year, an announcement will be made in April.

The government also notes students of any age who are employed as homeworkers must be paid the homeworkers minimum wage.

A homeworkers job is written as employees who do paid work in their own home with the 50-cent raise seeing $17.05 an hour now.
