Ontario’s minimum wage is jumping up on October 1st.

The minimum wage will increase to $16.55 an hour marking a 6.8 per cent boost from the current $15.50.

The government says the increase means someone making minimum wage on 40 hours a week would see a yearly increase of nearly $2200.

Labour advocates and opposition have argued the increase should be $20.

Labour Minister Monte McNaughton says the increase will go a long way to help people with the cost of living.
