Port Elgin Pumpkinfest was a smashing success over the weekend.

Dave McQuay of Dehli, Ont. took home top prize for the biggest pumpkin on Saturday, weighing in at 1888.5 lbs. The winning pumpkin wasn’t even McQuay’s biggest this year. He had one that was estimated over 2,000 lbs, but it exploded in August.

McQuay said it was a lifelong dream to win Pumpkinfest.

Second place went to Englehart’s Jeff Warner, who grew the only other pumpkin to top 1800 lbs.

Other winners included John Butler, who had the biggest squash at 1335.5 lbs, along with the biggest tomato and long gourd; and Port Elgin’s own Courtney McGuire, who had the biggest field pumpkin and bushel gourd.
