New Isotope Production System for Unit 6 at Bruce Power

Federal Minister of Energy and Natural Resources, Tim Hodgson visited Bruce Power on Tuesday, helping be part of the installation of an IPS in Unit 6.

This marked the continued stable supply of Made in Canada cancer fighting medical isotopes for the world health care community. Bruce Power’s Unit 6 is the first reactor to be renewed under the company’s Life Extension Program and Major Component Replacement Project which returned to service in 2023.

CEO and Executive Vice President of Bruce Power, James Scongack says its Canada’s efforts in health care which is a true national standout.

“Our isotope sector I would say personally really tops the list. We would not have the modern healthcare in Canada and around the world today without the work of Canadians and the work we’re doing here on the site.” said Scongack.

Bruce Power’s new IPS in Unit 6 will further increase production capacity of the cancer fighting medical isotope.
