Signs are pointing towards a closure will not be needed in the emergency department for the Wingham hospital.
There was some cause of concern for a closure over the holidays due to a lack of physicians but the roles have since been filled.
Physician coverage was seen as an issue at the hospital coming into the season with signs of extra support looking as if it was not going to show up.
Typically, Ontario’s Emergency Department Locum Program provides physicians for coverage but due to the volume of hospitals in need they were unable to provide assistance.
Wingham looked elsewhere to fill the roles to prevent a closure.
