North Huron CAO presented report on Discretionary & Non-Discretionary Services at Budget Meeting

Recommendations included third-party to operate Blyth Campgrounds, transition Fitness facility to 3rd party operator if possible, closure of Pool for July and August and Blyth Arena closure from April to August annually.

The Township of North Huron Staff held a Budget Meeting on Thursday and at it received a Discretionary & Non-Discretionary Services Review from its CAO, Dwayne Evans.

The purpose of the review was to identify opportunities to reduce the impact of the draft 2023 budget.

In it changes were recommended which would include:

  • a third party sought to be responsible for the operation of the Blyth Campgrounds including assuming any gains/or losses
  • third part to operate the proposed museum facility including assuming gains/losses
  • request more money from County for the delivery of Library services
  • reduction in assistance in Township contribution of marketing for Blyth Centre for the Arts reduced to $10,000
  • two Council members & CAO to meet with Belgrave Community Centre Board to discuss terms & conditions of agreement
  • close Blyth & District Community Centre from April 1st to August 31st annually
  • permanently close Township-operated fitness centre no later than May 1st, 2023 and RFP an to lease space & equipment for Fitness Centre services
  • closure of the pool for the months of July & August annually beginning July 1st, 2023
  • discontinue free recreation programs & encourage more sponsored programs
  • staff develop & present recreation subsidy program for low-income North Huron residents
